May 7, 2025

The Chemists Without Borders (CWB)under its mission and vision – “using science to improve the quality of life in communities most in need through service, science education, innovation, and community empowerment by uniting scientists globally to advance humanitarian efforts” – arranged with Dow Chemical Company in Kentucky, USA and the Colombo University Faculty of Science Alumni Association – North America (CUFSAA-NA) to donate some analytical equipment to the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

These include two particle size analyzers (Coulter) and an Agilent 6890 gas chromatograph equipped with thermal conductivity and flame ionization detectors. The donation was facilitated by the Colombo University Faculty of Science Alumni Association, North America (CUFSAA-NA).

These new analytical capabilities will serve a critical role in helping achieve quality research, peer reviewed publications and commercialization of new product innovations while providing hands-on and engaging learning environment for students. This will be a great asset for the faculty members and students to conduct their research for many years to come.

Weare thankful to Dr. Anagi Balachandra(CWB) and Dr. Ronda Grosse, Dow Chemical Company retiree serving on the Board of Directors of the CWB,for securing these key pieces of analytical instrumentation. We also greatly appreciate Dow Chemical, especially Dr. Chris Davis for this generous gift and support which will empower these students and contribute to advancing science education, research, and innovations in Sri Lanka. Many thanks to the Colombo University Faculty of Science Alumni Association, North America (CUFSAA-NA) for facilitating the shipment to Sri Lanka.Through these efforts, Chemists Without Borders aims to make a lasting difference in the quality of chemistry and science education and inspire future scientists around the world.
