Luca Maurizi holds a BSc in Industrial Chemistry (La Sapienza Università di Roma, Italy), an MSc in Clinical, Forensic, and Sport Chemistry (University of Turin, Italy), and an EU-funded Marie Curie PhD in Environmental Engineering (Aalborg University, Denmark). He has experience with drinking water treatment and analysis, environmental pollution with particular focus on plastic waste (his PhD was part of the MONPLAS project: https://monplas.eu/project), and clinical analysis methods. Luca prefers asking questions and listening carefully to his interlocutors as the most effective means to face common issues. He believes that our times absolutely need scientists and science professionals able to bridge the gap between science and lay people at large, and challenged communities in particular. He is honored to be part of CWB, as this organization proudly reaffirms the original role of science as a tool for human progress, rooted in human needs. Luca is an avid reader who enjoys discussing diverse genres of books in his freetime. He currently lives in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Well-Water Testing Project
Bangladesh has one of the highest arsenic levels in groundwater in the world. The majority of Bangladeshi citizens use private wells to meet their water needs. Most wells are shallow, less than 300 feet in depth.
Chemists Without Borders recruits university and high school students to test the wells and educate the residents about arsenic and the possibility of sharing water from safe wells with families who take drinking water from contaminated wells.
