Achal Garg, Ph.D., is the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Chemists Without Borders and provides strategic direction to ensure the organization’s success and growth.
Dr. Garg has dedicated his career to bridging science and society by mobilizing scientists, students, and philanthropic partners to deliver sustainable, systemic solutions to environmental challenges. An internationally recognized environmental scientist and a distinguished three-time Fulbright awardee, Dr. Garg has led several teaching and research programs across four continents, tackling water pollution, wastewater management, and integrated water resource management. Twice honored with the Mandela Washington Reciprocal Exchange Award, he has worked in Senegal and Seychelles to combat water pollution and safeguard public health.
Over two decades as Research & Innovation Manager at the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati, Dr. Garg pioneered groundbreaking wastewater disinfection technologies, improving environmental outcomes while reducing the operational costs. He continues to shape the next generation of engineers as an Adjunct Professor at Miami University, Ohio, USA, leveraging real-life field experience to enrich students’ learning.
Holding a Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology, his career is defined by a relentless commitment to advancing global water quality, protecting ecosystems, and improving lives through science-driven action. Dr. Garg is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of people worldwide by helping them access clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education.
Dr. Garg is also an active member of the Rotary Club, passionate about service, cultural exchange, and global engagement. An avid traveler and photographer, he has traveled across all seven continents, capturing diverse landscapes and cultures through his lens.
